BORACAY ISLAND, Aklan — Police authorities here have confirmed the entry in this resort island of at several Muslims coming from the besieged Marawi City.
The police clarified that Muslims who have entered Boracay have been subjected to strict profiling.
Senior Inspector Jose Mark Gesulga, acting chief of the Boracay Tourist Assistance Center confirmed that at least 55 Muslims who had entered the island had already undergone profiling.
He said that they were asked to present documents to prove their identity and to ensure that they were not connected with the Maute group that started the terror attacks in Marawi City in Lanao del Sur.
Gesulga said the police were also in close coordination with the Muslim community here to ensure that those entering in the island were not connected with any terrorist group.
He said police and other security groups including the Philippine Army, Philippine Navy, Philippine Coast Guard, and other local groups here remain on full alert to ensure that Boracay will remain safe and secure from terror attacks.
As part of their contingency measures, he said authorities have been deployed round-the-clock in identified weak spots in the island. (Karen V. Bermejo/PNA)
