The Municipal Tourism Office of Malay released its Comparative Statistics of Boracay tourists’ arrival for the Calendar Year of January to February 2019 and January to February of 2020.
Showing a significant drop in tourist arrivals of -40%. The statistic also shows Philippine resident tourists dominate the visitor arrivals of 57, 146, more than half of the total for February arrivals of 103,830.
Visitors from South Korea top the Foreign Nationalities arrivals for February, followed by the U.S.A and Russia respectively.
China tops the number one spot for Foreign Nationalities arrivals, but due to the COVID-19 outbreak, direct flights from the China province of Wuhan ( which is the epicenter of the outbreak) to Kalibo International Airport has been canceled by the National and Local Government to mitigate the spread of the virus.
Although there’s a ZERO confirmed case in Boracay, Malay, Aklan, still the island seems empty. Making establishment owners experience a dip on their businesses. Workers are being asked to take a leave to keep the business afloat. Worst case businesses were closed due to financial loss.
This coming April 26 to May 3 Boracay celebrates its second year “Love Boracay”. There are many activities that are prepared by the Local Government and Business establishments.
Many of the hotels and resorts creates packages for lower rates. This is the best time to visit the island.
