HOPE IT ISN’T TOO LATE

A ban on Chinese tourists visiting Boracay Island from the mainland China is necessary.

This was underscored by Councilor Maylyn Aguirre-Graf as she proposed a temporary travel ban to prevent the spread of the deadly new coronavirus into this paradise island.

“Isang case ng coronavirus sa Boracay, sira na ang isla. Kailangan protektahan natin ang mga residente, our families from this global epidemic,” she said, adding “we should stop them from entering Boracay Island, the cruise ships coming also from China. Tayo ay concern sa health at safety ng mga tao, ng mga ibang visiting tourists sa Malay at Boracay.”

Graf made the proposal during the January 30 regular session of the Sangguniang Bayan of Malay.

For her part, SK president Christine Hope Pagsuguiron, said the executive department should act on the proposed measure with speed because the local government of Malay could no longer handle another worst-case situation citing the devastation of Typhoon Ursula to the municipality on December which affected the residents and the business sectors.

“Let’s not wait for this disease to spread here, we have to act now,” she stressed.
