Friday madness strikes as both Coast Guard Station Aklan and Business Administration of Scuba Shop Diversjointly conduct Scubasurero at vicinity waters approximately 400 meters off Tambisaan, Boracay Island, Malay Aklan.
Scubasurero is a synchronized underwater clean-up that is coined after “scuba diving” and “basurero” (garbage collector). The activity aims to reduce biodegradable materials deposited underwater and enhance environmental awareness, maintain the cleanliness of the waters within Boracay Island.
The scubasurero was participated by (66) personnel from Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary, and members of Boracay Business Administration of Scuba Shop Divers. Their collaborative efforts resulted to the collection of more or less 100 kilograms of assorted debris, like steel, plastic, bottles, wood/fiber, clothes, nylon ropes, cans and others covering around 40,000 sq.m of sea area.
