World-famous Boracay Island in Malay town, Aklan is bracing for a nine-hour a day power interruption for two consecutive days.
In a notice, Aklan Electric Cooperative (Akelco) announced that the 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. power interruptions in the resort island will occur on Tuesday (Oct. 8) and Wednesday (Oct. 9).
Akelco is appealing for understanding as it is doing its part in the ongoing rehabilitation of Boracay, which has been started by the Duterte administration last year.
Akelco’s work includes the relocation of distribution lines, especially transferring power poles as road expansion projects are still continuing.
The Tuesday power interruption will cover the entire villages of Balabag and Yapak and portions of Manocmanoc village.
The Wednesday power interruption will still cover both Balabag and Yapak villages.
Akelco has to relocate a total of 471 poles in a 20-kilometer area where power lines run. It also has to transfer 218 distribution transformers.
Akelco is closely working with the Department of Energy (DOE), the National Electrification Administration (NEA), and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
