Locals and tourists in this resort island will soon enjoy wireless internet access from Smart Communications.
This can be expected within this year, said Alex Caeg, Smart’s senior vice president and head of consumer business costumer development during the opening of their newest store in the island last January 17.
“Very soon, within this year, we will be launching Smart WiFi hotspots all over Boracay,” Caeg told guests who attended the opening including Malay Mayor Ceciron Cawaling.
Customers of the telecommunication company can already try their WiFi service at their newest store at One Central Boracay in Station 1.
Caeg said that Boracay is one of their priorities because of the need of the island due to its tourism industry.
“We want to bring in a data lifestyle for all our customers in Boracay,” he said.
Two years ago, the telecommunication company also rolled out its Smart LTE services first in Boracay before it was expanded in different areas in the country.
Caeg said the new store is catering sales and after sales operation. It is open from Monday to Saturday.
He said the Smart store also bears a new design compared to their other 200 locations in the country.
Smart first set foot in Boracay over 20 years ago. It started in Red Coconut in 1996.
For his part, Mayor Cawaling welcomed the development that could improve the communication services on the island.
“The LGU is thankful for Smart for bringing modern communication here to serve our constituents and tourists,” he said.
Aside from Caeg, Milet Cuadra of Smart Communications also joined the opening.
The event was also attended by local officials, business owners and stakeholders of the island.
Currently, Smart offers free Wi-Fi at Caticlan Airport and Caticlan Jetty Port. (Boracay Informer)
