KALIBO, Aklan — The local government of Kalibo is eyeing to join the Philippine Travel Mart this September hoping to attract tourists to come to this Ati-atihan town.
Kalibo Councilor Phillip Kimpo, chairman on committee of tourism, said that he has noted that this town was unable to join the Philippine Travel Mart for several years.
This year’s Philippine Travel Mart will take place on September 1-3 at SMX Trade Center in Manila. It is considered one of the biggest travel roadshows in the country.
“The local government may need to spend on this but I am assured that the returns in terms of tourism arrivals and possibly more investment opportunities will multiply,” Kimpo said on Wednesday.
To augment the expenses, the local government plans to partner with small and medium entrepreneurs to also help advertise their product on the booth to be rented by the local government.
Already, the developing towns of Ibajay, Malay and Boracay including the Aklan Provincial government had been joining the travel mart for several years.
“We are planning to promote not only the Kalibo Ati-atihan but also our Tigayon Hills and Kalibo Mangrove, among others,” he said.(Jun N.Aguirre/PNA)
