The Boracay Fire Rescue and Volunteer (BFRAV) organization placed second in this year’s national search for the best volunteer organization in the country.
The Boracay-based volunteer’s group was awarded for their humanitarian efforts as part of the 19th Gawad Kalasag award.
Gawad Kalasag, which means Kalamidad at Sakuna Labanan, Sariling Galing at Kaligtasan is given by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
The group was recognized for its excellence in disaster risk management and humanitarian assistance.
For placing second, the group took home PhP75,000 from NDRRMC.
BFRAV founder and CEO, Rear Admiral Leonard A. Tirol of the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary received the award during the recent awarding ceremony held in Pasig City on Monday, December 11.
Amity Volunteer Fire Brigade from Bacolod City took the top spot for the best volunteer organization category.
For this year, the NDRRMC awarded a total of 58 local councils and groups from different parts of the country.
BFRAV is a non-government organization under the Boracay Action Group. (BID)
