Who killed the restaurant helper?
These were the final words of 23-year old Harvey Rebustes of Linabuan Norte, Kalibo, Aklan to his mother Remedios the last time he went home on March 13.
Rebustes, a high school graduate, is also a member of “Barkadahan’ clan or textmates.
Franklin Idorot, 21, said his co-helper went to a birthday celebration of his ‘clan’ friend in Barangay Poblacion after their work on Monday night but did not return home.
“Natutulog na kami...may tumawag sa kanya sa celphone,” he said.
Jeremias Ilagan, Jr., 19, told the police that he celebrated his birthday in their house with his friends including Rebustes. The victim, however, went out alone after their drinking session.
The following day, Rebustes’ body was recovered few meters from the riverbank of Aklan River.
Police believes the victim was killed elsewhere and thrown to the river. The barefooted victim sustained at least twelve fatal stab wounds in his hand, leg, head, face and back portion of the body, according to Chief Inspector Ulysses Ortiz, chief of Aklan Scene of the Crime Operatives.
The body was positively identified by his relatives through the three star tattoos on his neck and a name “Harvey” on his wrist.
According to Remedios, her son went home to take a bath in the afternoon and left their house to work in the restaurant last Monday.
“Dito siya naligo sa amin. Humingi pa siya ng pag load sa akin dahil ang suweldo pinatago niya sa kasamahan niya sa trabaho para sa pag-gawa ng pustiso. Pagkatapos nito, sabi niya ibibigay niya ang suweldo sa akin,” the mother said in local dialect.
Police are still investigating the circumstances what led to the death of Rebustes.
