All is set for the dry run activity in line with the reopening of Boracay, according to Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu.

Cimatu said a little ceremony to mark the reopening of Boracay for tourists will be conducted on October 15. “Boracaynons will welcome the people of Aklan on the first day of the dry run,” he said.

Key officials from the province and the 17 mayors of Aklan towns are expected to visit Boracay on the first day of the dry run.

After a short program on the beach, a ceremonial activity will be conducted to officially open the Bulabog road, he added.

The Bulabog road, which is part of the island’s circumferential road will serve as alternate route while construction is still ongoing at the main road.

Cimatu stressed that the main reason for the dry run is to test the water treatment capabilities of the hotels which will be opened.

At least 21 hotels will be allowed to operate on October 15, according to Cimatu.

“The biggest reason in conducting the dry run is to test the water treatment capabilities of these hotels,” he said.

Cimatu said inspection will be conducted on the third day of operation of the hotels to check their compliance.

Meanwhile, temporary pontoons in Station 3 and in Station 2, particularly in DMall will serve as drop off point for locals and residents during the dry run period.

Tourists with bookings in compliant hotels will only be allowed to enter the island.

The Boracay Island Interagency Task Force for Rehabilitation shall also determine the allowed number of rooms per compliant hotels and the maximum guests limit per hotel.

All compliant hotels shall also be required to report their daily capacity for monitoring. These should be reconciled against the monitoring of the Task Force on a daily basis.

All tourists with hotel bookings shall present their booking vouchers before entering Caticlan Jetty Port (to be stamped at Kalibo Airport, Caticlan Airport or Caticlan Jetty Port).

Guests that are beyond the maximum capacity allowed for the hotel will also not be allowed to enter. For day tours, a day pass will also be provided at the port.
