Vice Mayor Abram Sualog is now officially the acting mayor of Malay.

Sualog took his oath of office before Interior Secretary Eduardo Año during the island reopening on Friday.

Sualog will serve as the acting mayor of the town after a six-months preventive suspension has been issued against Malay Mayor Ceciron Cawaling on October 25.

In line with the island’s reopening, Sulaog said he will give his cooperation to the Boracay Interagency Task Force (BIATF).

Sualog is also expected to meet with all the department heads of the Local Government Unit of Malay following the reopening activities.

To note Cawaling has been ordered suspended by the Office of the Ombudsman for gross neglect of duty, conduct unbecoming of a public officer, and grave misconduct.

This is in relation to the criminal and administrative charges filed by Undersecretary Epimaco Densing of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) for issuing mayor’s permit some establishments even without the requisite fire safety certificate from the Bureau of Fire Protection.
