The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 6 will distribute relief goods to residents of Boracay Island affected by the closure starting this Thursday.
Some 12,000 to 15,000 food boxes from DSWD Central Office will be delivered to Boracay for distribution, according to Lisa Camacho, regional action officer of the DSWD 6.
The schedule of distribution will start on August 9 in Barangay Yapak and on August 10 and 11 in Balabag and Manocmanoc, respectively.
“The distribution in every barangay will also be scheduled per sitio,” Camacho said in an interview with Boracay Informer.
Camacho said the DSWD targets to cover the about 11,000 households that were administered with disaster assistance family assistance card (DAFAC) in the three barangays of the island.
The food boxes contains at least six kilos of rice, assorted canned goods and other food items.
Camacho said the food items are boxed to avoid mishandling of goods and to ensure its quality.
The distribution of food boxes will be continuously done until all households are covered, she stressed adding that it will be done in partnership with other members of the inter-agency.
Meanwhile, Camacho also said that as of July 30, the administration of assistance for individual in crisis situation was already turned-over to the DSWD 6 to the Local Government Unit of Malay.
“Those who want to avail financial aid in the form of transportation, medical, education and burial assistance can go to Eurotel Boracay,” she said.
