The Department of Public Works and Highways is targeting to start the rehabilitation and construction works of the main roads in Boracay on the third week of June.

According to Engr. Fritz Ruiz, Chief Planning and Design Section of DPWH-Aklan, the initial P490 million budget for Boracay road construction has already been released by the Department of Budget and Management.

The initial budget will cover road construction from Cagban Port until Crown Regency Prince Resort in Station 2, Ruiz said during the DPWH led meeting with representatives of the different telcos and cable companies on Thursday.

Ruiz said there will be an additional allocation for the road construction to cover roads until Barangay Yapak. To note, the DPWH has to finish at least 70 percent of the widening projects on the island within six months.

At present, the DPWH continue to demolish structures within the 12-meter road easement. On Thursday, the DPWH has likewise met with the representatives of different telco and cable companies in Boracay.

Apart from the P490 million, DPWH is also allocating P92 million in the relocation of electric poles of Aklan Electric Company (AKELCO).
The agency is likewise coordinating with the two water utilities on the island to fast track with the laying of pipes along the main road.
